Equilibrium nearest-neighbor

Hi, I have an advanced Chemistry problem that I have no idea where to begin. Here it is:

Find the equilibrium nearest-neighbor of a linear chain of particles, alternatiely positive and negative, with pairwise interactions of the form:

The interactions of a given particle with all other particles, and not nearest neighbors, must be considered. Assume that the chain of particles is infinite.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
