Latex or an equivalent?

Is it possible to have a mod installed to make it easier / possible to write chemical equations?

EG:

2CH3CH3 + 7O2 -> 6H2O + 4CO2

That's fairly confusing :(

as of right now there is no way other then that. as i'm sure you're aware the alternative in latex would be

\(\displaystyle 2CH_{3}CH_{3} + 7O_{2} -> 6H_{2}O + 4CO_{2}\)

which for me anyway is easier to interpret then the way you proposed. i would assume LaTex is coming soon but i will give the last word to Euler

Let's forward the idea to Jameson, I find it very interesting and necessary.

I think Latex has the ability to handle chemical equations. We will work on getting it installed ASAP.

Sorry to bump but is there any news on this?

No update, sorry. I will remind MathGuru about the need for Latex on CHF and see what he says. Soon I'll begin adding some of the standard modifications we have on MHF and PHF to make the site better.

just joined CHF but was disappointed that it does not have latex

yes, I just joined CHF but was disappointed that it does not have latex

sure would be a lot easier and more helpfull if it did

I visit MHF a lot... but the latex makes tons of difference

my 3 cents

LaTeX is now properly functioning throughout everywhere on the forums, and there is a LaTeX button in the toolbar making it easy to insert LaTex within a post.

You can use either MATH or TEX tags:

Code:
[math]2CH_{3}CH_{3} + 7O_{2} -> 6H_{2}O + 4CO_{2}[/math]
Code:
[tex]10CH_{3}CH_{3} + 7O_{2} -> 7H_{2}O + 5CO_{2}[/tex]
And they both render correctly within LaTeX:

\(\displaystyle 2CH_{3}CH_{3} + 7O_{2} -> 6H_{2}O + 4CO_{2}\)

\(\displaystyle 10CH_{3}CH_{3} + 7O_{2} -> 7H_{2}O + 5CO_{2}\)
